Feel The Need For Speed?

November 16, 2024

Flash Clash won’t be just another cocktail competition — it’s a high-octane playground where the crème de la crème of the local bar scene collide in a dazzling display of skill and style. Picture this: bartenders and servers, the unsung heroes of your nights out, stepping into the spotlight to show off their lightning-fast moves and impeccable taste. Inspired by the adrenaline rush of events like the Service Slam and Speed Rack, co-founder Chun, the person behind Saigon’s beloved neighborhood hangout The Pi (which is satisfyingly within staggering distance of Wink Hotel Saigon Centre), is bringing that electric energy to our own backyard.

“The response? It’s been nothing short of explosive,” Chun smiles. “All 9 spots vanished in a blink, just 48 hours after we dropped the news. Now, we’re gearing up for a spectacle. Expect a whirlwind of shaking, stirring, and serving that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat. Who’ll emerge victorious? There’s only one way to find out—join the buzz at Bambino on August 13th.”

So, in the spirit of speed, we asked Chun for his whip-smart, hyper-speed guide to his favorite fastest things in Ho Chi Minh City.

Chun’s Guide To Speedy Saigon

Bánh mì

This iconic Vietnamese sandwich is a fast and delicious treat that’s perfect for busy locals and curious tourists. Imagine the crunch of the bread, the savory filling, and the burst of fresh herbs – it’s the ultimate quick bite! Some must-visit spots for a mouth-watering bánh mì include Bánh mì bảy hổ and the fish cake bánh mì on Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai street.

Get ready for them to make it quick and for you to attempt to eat it even quicker!

Xe Ôm – Old School Motorbike Taxis

Before app-based rides, Xe Ôm – the old-school motorbike taxis were the real MVPs of Saigon’s streets.

You’ll find these friendly drivers at every corner, especially downtown, around Dong Du and Dong Khoi Streets, ready to whisk you away in no time. You can even haggle for the best price, adding a bit of adventure to your ride!

These drivers, mostly seasoned locals, know the city like the back of their hand – they’re faster and more reliable than any GPS.

Trà đá, Cà phê vỉa hè – Iced Tea & Strong Coffee

Picture this: you’re on the bustling streets of Saigon, and you spot a little stand serving ice-cold tea and strong, aromatic coffee. It’s a cultural staple, a quick refreshment for the weary traveler or busy worker.

Grab a drink, take a breather, and hit the road again – it’s like a refreshing pit stop in the middle of a hectic day. They’re everywhere.

For a place to linger longer at, there’s Cafe Vy, at 227E Le Thanh Ton is a classic. For something more refined, and even more old school try A Cafe Specialty Coffee, on the same street as The Pi. It’s a great place to test out some fresh roasted Vietnamese Arabica.

Street Haircut – Street Barber

Need a quick trim? Saigon’s street barbers have got your back! It’s a charming and unique experience where you can get a stylish brush-up right on the sidewalk.

It’s fast, it’s fun, and it’s very cheap and even sometimes free.

These barbers are not just offering a service; they’re adding a slice of Saigon’s vibrant culture to your day. There’s one beside Wink Hotel Saigon Centre – on Nguyen Van Thu, and another downtown, on the corner between Nguyen Sieu and Thi Sach.

An Ultimate Martini at the Pi

I’m biased, of course, but if you’re looking for a quick yet unforgettable drink? Head to the Pi for our Ultimate Martini.

This pre-mixed, freezing-cold mezcal cocktail is served up in under 30 seconds – talk about speedy service! It’s one of The Pi’s signature drinks, perfect for a quick refreshment that packs a punch.
