To celebrate the one year anniversary of the opening of Wink #1, the hotel is hosting a tribute to its legendary Secret Pajama Party – the Endless Summer Surf Party. Like the Secret Pajama Party there will be DJs, artists and drinks for this one-night-only event.

The Secret Pajama Party, held a week before the official opening of Wink Hotel Saigon Centre, was a way to embody the chic but fun Wink vibe. And everyone had to wear pajamas…something like a sleepover hosted by your favorite DJs. The Endless Summer Surf Party, sponsored by Monkey Shoulder, on March 25 is keeping the spirit alive. 

Wink Hotels Saigon Centre is only the first in a planned chain of 20 hotels. As the next two will open in Danang – the first on downtown Tran Phu and the second, a hotel and suites with a rooftop pool and bar, across the river on Tran Hung Dao – besides an anniversary celebration, the Endless Summer Surf Party is a prelude to the beach vibes the brand will soon be bringing.  The name, Endless Summer, is also an attempt to reframe the endless lockdown we’ve been through, and a hope for better times ahead. 

But rather than look back to the golden age of surfing in the ‘60s and ‘70s, the event focuses on the era when surfing went gnarly. During the ‘80s a pro-surfing scene developed in Australia. Boards got a streamlined redesign. And a generation of young surfers emerged from the waves to take a counterculture movement mainstream – Tom Carroll and Tom Curren, and Freida Zamba and Wendy Botha, and by the end of the decade, Kelly Slater who entered his first tournament in 1990.

Chasing eternal sunsets across the globe didn’t disappear, but big brands stepped in to add a professional sheen to the sport. The decade was an era of excess where “style reflected the zeitgeist perfectly.” Rip Curl, Quiksilver and Billabong were born and defined the culture and older brands like Ocean Pacific and Hang Ten found a new audience.  

So this time, expect guests to be parading neon windbreakers and zinc-ed noses, in the Wink Space lobby reimagined as a surf camp. Back comes the epic convertible camper van, that appeared at the recent Poppin’ Corks event, as DJ booth. There’s a stage backed by an oversized LED screen with surf visuals by Kyunri and Zoodio. Wink have also partnered with the cross-culture VietQ Media brand who’ll be introducing artists like NAMVEE and Minh Lai.

And also returning are some of the DJs who performed at the Secret Pajama Party. Electronic producer and party DJ NODEY will be dropping a set and so will Levi Oi, fresh from the festival in Danang, and Uncle Boo. Joining them are MESS, AGB Tina, Uncle Boo, La Riff and Wink’s resident DJ, Chris. 

“The aim of the party is to put the tough times we’ve been through behind us and look ahead to an ‘endless summer’ of better days that await us,” Wink’s brand director, David Kaye, says. “Wink is a community hub, so we wanted to curate some of our favorite local artists in this special tribute to the epic opening parties we had a year ago while looking ahead to our next projects in the sunkissed Central Vietnam beach city of Danang.” The team also recognize an affinity with the style emerging in the late ‘80s and ‘90s – all neon and gnarly. “The style of the era has been resilient and you see it in lots of streetwear brands like Paradise4Saigon who’ll be hosting a pop-up store, and retro local shops like Maintwo and Mayhem,” David adds. 

Tickets for the event that runs between 19:00 and 23:00 on Friday 25 March are 300K including one surf-themed welcome drink available via Ticketbox.
